We offer many different classes at Mujeres Unidas Avanzando. Most of our classes begin every September. Our classes include:

  • HiSET Preparation in Spanish (High School Equivalency)
  • Technology Classes
  • Healthcare Job Training Classes

English Classes

Level 1: Beginner

Level 2: Intermediate

Level 3: Advanced

If you want to improve your English skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing, these are the right classes for you! We have English classes in the morning, afternoon, and at night. We also have in-person and Zoom options. Classes start in September and finish in June. We accept new students at the beginning of each month if there is space available. Contact us for our current schedule.

To apply for English classes, complete an application online. We have the application available in English and in Spanish. After you complete the application, you will see a link to a placement exam so we can determine your current level of English. You will not be added to the waiting list until we receive both your application and your placement test, so please complete both forms! Contact us if you have any questions about the application or the placement test.

HiSET Preparation in Spanish (High School Equivalency)

These classes are for students who want to earn their high school equivalency certificate. We will help you prepare for all five subject exams on the HiSET test: reading, writing, science, social studies, and math. You will also study English once per week. We will also help you register for HiSET exams and apply for accommodations if needed. These classes are taught completely in Spanish. We have in-person and Zoom options. Classes start in September and finish in June. We accept new students at the beginning of each month if there is space available. Contact us for our current schedule.

To apply for HiSET classes, please complete this application. At the end of the application, you will see a link to a Calendly page. You will need to schedule an appointment to meet with a member of our student support team to complete the registration process. We will have a short conversation about your goals, your experience with studying for the HiSET, and your schedule, and you will take a placement exam so we can determine the correct level for you. Healthcare Job Training Classes

Complete one of our job training programs and earn the certification you need to start working right away!

Clinical Medical Assistant

Learn the skills you need to become a Clinical Medical Assistant. This job is in extremely high demand at clinics and community health centers in and around Boston. You will learn about healthcare in general, phlebotomy, cardio/EKG, and labs. You will receive hands-on, individualized practice in our lab and you will also complete a 160-hour externship.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • 18+ years old
  • U.S. work authorization
  • High school diploma or GED/HiSET
  • Advanced level of English
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19
  • Ready and able to work right when the training ends

Complete this application to be added to the waiting list. This training typically begins every October and February. There are two rounds of interviews – one virtual and one in-person – where we will discuss the training in more detail and confirm all eligibility requirements, so we can be sure this is the right class for you. We will begin contacting students on the waiting list about one month before each class begins. If you would like an update on your status on the waiting list, feel free to call or email us. This class is very popular and we thank you for your patience!

Phlebotomy

Learn the skills you need to become a certified phlebotomist. This certification will help you find work in a hospital, community health center, or laboratory. You will receive hands-on, individualized practice in our lab and you will also complete a 120-hour externship.

  • High school diploma or GED/HiSET
  • Advanced level of English
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19
  • Ready and able to work right when the training ends

Home Health Aide

Learn the skills you need to start working with patients as a home health aide in the patient’s home, a nursing home, or a group home. You will also become CPR certified.

  • 18+ years old

  • High school diploma or GED/HiSET
  • Intermediate or higher level of English
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19
  • Ready and able to work right when the training ends

Technology Classes

Computer skills are essential in today’s world. MUA can help you learn the skills you need to be successful in work, in school, and more!

Office Administration

In this class, you will master Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), and also learn about email, internet safety, typing skills, and more. This class is completely in English and it is for those who have some basic computer skills.

Digital Literacy

You will learn the parts of the computer, how to turn the computer off and on, how to use the keyboard, how to control the mouse, typing skills, the basics of Microsoft Word, and the basics of PowerPoint. You will also learn the basics of navigating the internet and strategies for keeping you and your family safe online. This class is completely in English and it is for those with little to no computer knowledge.
